Truck Fire Closes Part of I-65

(Jasper County, IN) - A semi loaded with laptops caught fire and closed down southbound lanes of I-65 Wednesday morning.

Accordint to State Police, the semi hit an object in the roadway and caught fire about six miles south of the Rensselaer exit in Jasper County. Extinguishing the blaze was made more difficult, authorities say, due to lithium ion batteries in the computers igniting as fire crews worked.

The blaze was so hot that it destroyed the roadway surface, closing the southbound right lane and shoulder for hours. By 11:00 a.m. INDOT crews were resurfacing that section of road.

No injuries were reported in the accident.
