Minors with Alcohol Spend Holiday in Jail

(La Porte County, IN) - The Memorial Day plans of two La Porte area minors were ruined when they were found by police with alcoholic beverages.

La Porte County Police said the two in question, ages 19 and 20, were in a 2019 Mercedes Benz that clocked at 38 mph in a 30 mph zone in the area of Small Road and Lakeshore Drive. They were pulled over after an officer noticed the license plate bracket on their car obstructing the view of “Indiana” on the plate.

The officer, while asking for the names of each person, then allegedly spotted two cases of “Rocket Pop Twisted Teas” in the vehicle. The driver, Brennan Balka, and his passenger, Collin Bergquist, were handcuffed and booked into the La Porte County Jail on a Class C misdemeanor charge of Minor in Possession of Alcohol. In addition, Balka was given a warning for Speeding and having an obstructed license plate.

Per authorities, the two told the officer they had just picked up the alcohol from a friend and planned on taking it back to Brennan’s house to consume. At the time of the incident, they did not have any alcohol yet in their bloodstreams.
