(La Porte County, IN) - A badly-weaving suspected drunk driver was taken off a state highway with help from a cell phone call to police by another motorist
La Porte County Police said at about 9 p.m. on Friday, a caller reported a Ford Escape in the area of Fail Road and Indiana 2 that was swerving all over the roadway without its headlights on. The vehicle was then located by the responding officer, who saw it swerve off and back on the roadway several times near Rolling Prairie.
During a traffic stop, the driver, Tasha Freeman, 42, told the officer, who detected a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, that she did not have anything to drink, according to authorities. In his report after the fact, the officer noted Freeman exhibited other classic signs of impairment such as slurred speech, glassy eyes, and how “her eyelids were also drooping in a manner that made it difficult to see her eyes,"
She was ultimately arrested after refusing to take a breathalyzer test.
