Eye-Opening Collision with Mattress

(La Porte County, IN) - A driver may have had a sleepless night after winds during a recent storm blew a mattress from the bed of a truck into the windshield of her oncoming car.

La Porte County Police said the driver of a Dodge RAM, Abel Gallegos, was taking a mattress to his home in Westville on Friday, May 24th. An oncoming Nissan Rogue was about to pass him on Indiana 2 when the bedding flew out of the bed of his truck into the windshield of the Rogue, driven by Monika Hughart. The accident happened in the 1100 block of West Indiana 2.

The mattress seemed to be properly secured to the bed with straps in a storm with wind speeds strong enough to blow down a number of trees and signs, per authorities.

There were no injuries, however, the windshield cracked on the passenger side of Hughart's car, which was also left with a dent in the hood.
