(La Porte, IN) - They say, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night” can keep mail carriers from their duties. But Thursday afternoon an engine fire stopped a mail truck in its tracks.
Just after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, first responders were called to Liberty Title & Escrow near the corner of US 35 and Johnson Road. A US Postal Service mail truck was engulfed in flames in the parking lot.
The driver told police that the vehicle was making a jerking motion and started smoking. When she pulled over, it burst into flames. Firefighters with La Porte City and Springfield Township Fire Departments handled the blaze.
Luckily, the postal carrier had already delivered all the contents. The mail truck, which she told authorities had just been fixed by a local shop, was the only loss.
