(La Porte County, IN) - A teenager is recovering from injuries suffered in a single-vehicle crash with several trees in La Porte County this week.

On Tuesday night, La Porte County Police responded to County Road 1000 North near 400 East where driver Tara Raker, 19, explained she was cresting a hill when an oncoming vehicle passed her. She then ran off the road and sideswiped several trees before hitting a large tree head-on.

According to police, the impact caused her car to overturn in the air and land on its roof. Raker and her passenger, who was not injured, managed to crawl out of the vehicle afterward.

Raker was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with fractures in her neck.  She’s expected to recover.
