(Michigan City, IN) - A Michigan City man has been accused of having a large quantity of various drugs and over $61,000 in cash inside his residence, as Kyle Fugate, 31, is charged in La Porte Superior Court 1 with Dealing in Methamphetamine, Dealing in Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 Substances along with Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon.
According to court documents, on May 17th, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Fugate's residence at 422 Hoyt St. Over 28 grams of methamphetamine, more than 55 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and 196 grams of dextroamphetamine were found in two safes. Dextroamphetamine is a prescription medication used to treat attention deficit disorder and narcolepsy, which is a sleep disorder.
The cash and a 12 gauge shotgun were also found during the search. Authorities note that it was illegal for Fugate to have a firearm because of a prior burglary conviction from 2013. Fugate is being held in the La Porte County Jail on $50,000 bond and could face an up to 30-year sentence on each of the two most serious counts.
