(Rolling Prairie, IN) - A Rolling Prairie priest has been given the state’s highest honor. The founder of Sharing Meadows, Fr. Dennis Blaney, was recently bestowed with the Sagamore of the Wabash Award.
The 92-year-old Blaney has been a priest for over 65 years. In 1994 he founded Sharing Meadows, which serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities ranging from autism to traumatic brain injury. The idyllic camp and residence allows other-abled adults to live together in a caring environment and fully develop their God-given talents. 28 residents currently live there.
Recipients of the Sagamore of the Wabash are selected by the governor for their outstanding contribitions to the community. Local state representative Jim Pressel gave Fr. Blaney the award. The Most Reverend Robert J. McClory, Bishop of the Diocese of Gary, was also on hand to honor Blaney.
"Fr. Blaney's acceptance of the Sagamore of the Wabash award," said a Share Foundation spokesperson, "serves as a reminder of the values that unite us—servant leadership, humility, and respect. His leadership and profound impact on the lives of others inspire us all to strive for a better, more inclusive community."
