(La Porte County, IN) - Charges have been filed against another driver for passing a stopped school bus in La Porte County.

 

65-year old Richard Epps, Sr., is charged with reckless driving.

 

According to La Porte County Police, a school bus Monday afternoon was unloading children on U.S 35 a couple of miles north of La Porte. The bus was facing north while Epps was traveling southbound.

 

Police say he had plenty of time to stop for the bus with its lights flashing and stop arm extended but kept going. The Chicago man said he didn’t see the bus on time and rushed to make a job-related appointment.

 

He was given a court date of October 4th to face charges. Epps could face an up to one-year jail sentence on the Class A misdemeanor offense.
