Fall Activities Abound This Weekend

A bountiful harvest of fall activities is cropping up this weekend.

Admission to Indiana State Parks is free on Saturday in honor of National Public Lands Day. In addition, fees will be waived at all state parks, forests, and recreation areas that typically charge admission.

Just in time, a new, nearly half-mile nature trail at Potato Creek State Park is open for new adventures. The maze-like path has been cut into the park's prairie grass and wildflower area across from Worster Lake. As a result, migrating egrets and monarch butterflies may be seen in that area, too. The maze is open through November 13.

Saturday is the last of Indiana's free fishing days. Indiana residents will not need a fishing license or trout/salmon stamp to fish in public lakes. All other fishing rules apply.

Cutler Funeral Home celebrates its long roots with an open house from 11 AM to 3 PM on Saturday. The open house will include food provided by "Sweet Lou's." There will also be a raffle for gift certificates and gift baskets. Rock 106.5 will also be broadcasting live from the funeral home during the open house.

Two special outdoor events are happening in Michigan City.

Creek Ridge County Park in Michigan City is hosting Pioneer Days Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Historically dressed re-enactors will be demonstrating life in the olden days. Hayrides, food, and other activities will also be featured.

And history buffs have an opportunity to jump in a 24-foot voyageur canoe. The nonprofit group Wilderness Inquiry will be in Michigan City at the Trail Creek Family Fun Day on Saturday at Hansen Park from 11:00 AM to 2 PM.

In South LaPorte County, Wanatah's Scarecrow Festival is a great way to kick off the fall. Activities are going on around town all day Saturday and much of Sunday. Look for Rock 106.5's Rik Anthony in Saturday morning's parade, which starts at 11:00 AM.

A car show and live music will be among the activities Sunday.
