125-Year Open House at Funeral Home

(La Porte, IN) - A La Porte funeral home has been in business for 125 years, but its roots go back to before Abraham Lincoln became president.

Cutler Funeral Home celebrates its long roots with an open house on Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM. The open house will include food provided by "Sweet Lou's." There will also be a raffle for gift certificates and gift baskets.

“We’re having an open house just to thank the community for allowing us to serve them for so many years,” said owner Dale Knouse.

Several years ago, Dale Knouse, after working there for close to 20-years, purchased the funeral parlor from the Cutler family. Knouse said Austin Cutler started the business when he bought Ball Undertaking Co. in the 600 block of Monroe Street.

The funeral home existed for about 60-years before being acquired by Cutler.

Knouse said the funeral home has relocated several times but has been at 2900 Monroe Street since 1994.

“It’s just a simple thank you,” Knouse said.

Rock 106.5 will also be broadcasting live from the funeral home during the open house.
