(Michigan City, IN) - The baby bobcat that escaped from Washington Park Zoo has been found with Michigan City Police saying that the nine-month-old kitten was located on Thursday at the Guy Foreman Amphitheatre at Washington Park, which is near the zoo.
So far, further details have not been provided.
Johnny McQuade is a professional trapper with Varment Guard Wildlife Services, which has customers in northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan.McQuade was not involved with the search but was only somewhat surprised the bobcat was found near the zoo because of its young age.
“It’s probably not going to be going far,” he said prior to the bobcat’s discovery.
Carrie Campbell, owner of McCoy Wildlife Control in La Porte, was also not involved in the search and only somewhat surprised the bobcat was located near the zoo, remarking how the area, being hilly and wooded, provides a natural habitat for wildlife.
“I think they’ll be able to find it,” she said before the bobcat was captured.
Campbell said the area also being residential was probably a help in finding the bobcat because of good potential for human and surveillance camera sightings.
The bobcat, named Grace, was discovered missing from the zoo on Wednesday morning.
