Harold W. “Mac” McDougal, 88, of Michigan City, Indiana, formerly of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 26, 2026, at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home in New Carlisle, Indiana.
Born on May 19, 1938, in Sylacauga, Alabama, Mac was the son of the late Albert and Martha (Powell) McDougal. He will be remembered by his family and loved ones for the life he lived and the memories they shared with him.
Mac retired from NIPSCO in 1994, where he served as a safety manager. Outside of work, he found enjoyment in the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting—pastimes that brought him happiness throughout his life.
He is survived by his three daughters, Tammy (David) Kowalczyk of Evergreen Park, Illinois; Diane Massey of Michigan City, Indiana; and Cheryl (Gene) Bechinski of Earl Park, Indiana. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren—Michael, Sarah, Luna (Lance), Matthew, Erin, Brianna, Ashley and Jenna—and two great-grandchildren, Selena and McKenzie. His sister, Ann Jaeger of La Porte, Indiana, also survives him.
Mac was preceded in death by his significant other of 25 years, Fran Stewart; his great-granddaughter, Alivia; three sisters, Joyce, Alice, and Nell (Sarah); and four brothers, Ranceford, Alton, Benny, and Jimmy.
Though Harold has cast his final line, the memories he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he find peace in calm waters, endless fishing days, and a place where the fish are always biting. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements are being handled by Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel in Michigan City, Indiana.
