Mary Louise Eisele, December 8, 1927 - October 22, 2026.

Mary Louise Eisele, age 98, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2026. Born on December 8, 1927, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Stanley and Henrietta (Merkel) Fox. She lived a remarkable 98 years, leaving behind a legacy of independence, tenacity, hospitality, and love.

At the young age of 16, she graduated from St. Mary’s High School (now Marquette Catholic High School), emphasizing her work ethic at a young age. She worked hard as a testament to what she learned from her parents, and because building something lasting was important to her.

On September 11, 1948, she married Jerome L. Eisele, and they began their married life together. The happy couple welcomed the apple of their eye, Thomas L. Eisele, in October 1949.

For over 40 years, she worked in the office of the South Shore Railroad, sparking trips to Chicago with her girlfriends as a young lady, sentimental journeys with her husband, and a lifelong love of train whistles in her offspring.

Fiercely independent, and never one to shy away from speaking her mind, Mary Louise approached life with fortitude and a sharp wit that kept those around her on their toes. She was a woman who knew her mind, worked hard for what mattered, and believed in doing all things well. An active parishioner at Queen of All Saints Church, she knew that God and prayer were at the center of all she did.

At the heart of Mary Louise’s life was being a true host. Whether sharing a cup of coffee with a neighbor or making chicken soup for her family, there was no room in her heart or kitchen for an empty stomach or cold food. And for those lucky enough to be called her grandchildren, there were special treats that made time together all the sweeter: heath bars, lemon meringue pie, and ice cream sundaes served at midnight, because some moments were simply too good to wait until morning. When she spoke of her family and friends, her eyes shone brighter than the lights at Washington Park at Christmastime. When she became a Great-Grandmother, over 6 years ago, her pride was surpassed only by the amount of love she had for her 3 new blessings. With her close friends and neighbors, Joanne Wyka and Hilde Lanie, Mary Louise shared countless meals, memories, and years together.

Mary Louise treasured time with the people she held dear, turning ordinary days into extraordinary memories. She embraced the magic of Christmas, and shared care packages and treats guaranteed to lift your spirits when a family member, friend, or neighbor was in need of connection. Cherished family traditions, celebrations with friends, dinners and gatherings with her beloved husband, and travels with family all became part of the rich tapestry of her life story.

Mary Louise is survived by her son, Thomas L. Eisele (Libby), her granddaughters, Anne L. Eisele (Nicholas Gonzales) and Kathryn L. Main (Mark), and her great-grandchildren, Eisele, Tripp, and Sawyer Main, her brother-in-law, Paul Eisele, and several treasured nieces and nephews, including Ed (“Beaver”) Spencer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, LaVerne DeVaux, Eunice Spencer, and Marvin Fox.

Her legacy lives on in the traditions her family continues, the meals that bring loved ones together, the stories told around the table, and the countless memories that turn a lifetime into something enduring. Those who knew her will remember her independence, her chuckles, and the way she made people feel cared for-often with a cup of coffee, a home-cooked treat, or an impromptu gift.

A life spanning 98 years leaves behind more than memories; it leaves a way of living to be carried forward. Mary Louise’s life reminds us to cherish our family traditions, to break bread with those we love, to find ways to make the ordinary a bit more extraordinary, and to make room for one more cup of coffee, one more story, and one more midnight sundae. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever part of the lives she helped shape.
