June Dee Sunderland

June Dee Sunderland, 88, of Knox, IN, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Northwest Health-Starke.

She was born on July 25, 1938, in Cleveland, OH, to David A. and Evelyn (Hague) White. June grew up in Los Angeles, CA. In 1959, she married Richard J. "Dick" Sunderland Sr., co-owner of Gene's Restaurant/The Boulevard Room, a popular Michigan City restaurant and cocktail lounge. Dick later passed in 1980.

June previously owned the Pro Dive Shop in Michigan City. She was a PADI Master Diver, Divemaster, Open Water Instructor, and commercial diver who trained multiple police Search and Recovery teams around southern Lake Michigan. She later worked for Kankakee Valley Workforce Development in La Porte and Knox, marrying Stan Clifford in 1986. June and Stan divorced in 2006. In 1994, she purchased Hickory Hills Campground in Knox, which she owned until her passing.

She is survived by her son, Rick Sunderland of Knox.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m., on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

A time of visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
