Dale E. Smith, May 3, 1951 - August 21, 2026.

Dale E. Smith, 76, of Michiana Shores, Indiana, passed away Friday, August 21, 2026, at 8:51 p.m. at his home.

A memorial service honoring Dale will be held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born May 3, 1950, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Norman F. and Dorothea I. (Walker) Smith.

Surviving are his mother, Dorothea I. (Walker) Smith of Trail Creek, IN; brother, Darrell F. (Patricia) Smith of La Porte, IN; sister, Rebecca (Earl) Wantland of Michigan City, IN; sister-in-law, Jackie Staples-Smith of Michigan City, IN; and longtime, best friend, John Schlegelmilch of Trail Creek, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman F. Smith; and two brothers, Ronald J. Smith and Daniel P. Smith.

Dale graduated from Elston High School in 1969. He went on to work for many years at Dwyer Instruments, where he later retired.

Dale was very mechanically inclined and had a natural ability to fix just about anything. He enjoyed using his skills to help others and was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. Those who knew Dale could count on his kindness, dependability, and willingness to help whenever he could. Above all, Dale was a good brother and friend and an especially devoted son. His family and friends will remember him for his caring nature, helpful spirit, and the many ways he showed his love through his actions.
