Sally A. Steffy, 76, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026. She was born on July 14, 1950, to the late William and Georgiana (Green) Schindler.
Sally dedicated many years of service to the La Porte community, retiring after working as a cook at La Porte Hospital and La Porte High School. Throughout her life, she also worked at Burger Chef, Hardee's, Lenard's Bar, and Reed's Restaurant, where she enjoyed serving others and making lasting friendships.
She found great joy in bowling and was honored with membership in the Bowling Hall of Fame, having participated in numerous bowling leagues over the years. Sally was also a member of the La Porte Hospital Retirees Club and the Falcons in La Porte.
Sally was devoted to her grandchildren. She supported them in all their activities. She went to everything. Her grandchildren were her world.
On November 25, 1967, Sally married Alan R. Steffy, who preceded her in death on January 31, 2003.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kimberly (Rob) Overmyer of La Porte and Jennifer (Paul) Brettin of Rolling Prairie; her beloved grandchildren, Nick and Tyler Overmyer, and Jacob and Noah Brettin; and her devoted companion of the past 13 years, John Dudeck. She is also survived by her siblings, Sharon Kreft of Michigan City, Joe (Shawn) Schindler of La Porte, and Michele Belzowski of Bentleyville, Ohio, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home immediately following the visitation.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dunes Hospice, especially Jessica, Barb, and the compassionate nurses on the third floor at La Porte Hospital, for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided to Sally and her family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dunes Hospice or to the charity of the donor's choice.
