Darron Richard Salzer, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 22, 2026.

 

Darron was born to Brian and Karen (Manus) Salzer on April 8, 1982, in La Porte, Indiana. He graduated from La Porte High School and earned a bachelor degree from Indiana University Bloomington.

 

He joined the Indiana National Guard in 2003 and after his college graduation, he accepted a full time position with the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Virginia, as a military photo journalist. Darron faithfully served his country for 22 years and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He retired from service in December 2025, as a Chief Public Affairs Officer with the 1st Army Division East at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

 

At the time of his death, Darron was studying for his master’s degree from Indiana University.

 

Darron is survived by his parents Brian and Karen Salzer, brothers Benjamin (Kayla) Miller, Nathaniel Salzer and Andrew (Rachel) Salzer, along with many nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle Darron. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends, including Kurt Ulrich of La Porte and Amanda Herrera and Rita Danis from his adopted home of Louisville, Kentucky.

 

He was preceded in death by his sister Kristan M. Salzer, who passed in November 2000. He was also preceded by his grandparents Wilbur and Michelle (Evans) Salzer, Joseph and Shirley (Dadlow) Manus.

 

Darron will be remembered as a beloved son and brother and as well as a witty friend who was outgoing, dedicated, tenacious, and had a zest for life. He squeezed more travels and activities in 44 years than most people do in a lifetime. His hobbies included photography, bourbon trading, yoga, dancing, traveling and was always ready to enjoy a good meal.

 

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held July 25, 2026, at 10:45 AM at the United Methodist Church La Porte, IN 46350
