Nancy B. Grimm, age 91, of LaPorte, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Saturday morning, July 18, 2026.

 

Nancy was born on March 20, 1935, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Carl and Mary (Sopko) Novak. On December 31, 1955, she married the love of her life, Donald Grimm, in Chicago, Illinois. Together, they built a life centered around family, faith, hard work, and love, sharing many treasured years before his passing.

 

Throughout her working years, Nancy played an important role in the family business she and Donald owned together, Grimm Mold and Die. She served as the company’s business office manager, helping oversee the day-to-day operations of the business with dedication and care until her retirement in 1989. Working alongside her husband was another meaningful chapter in the life they built together and reflected Nancy’s strong work ethic, dependability, and devotion to her family.

 

Nancy was also a woman of remarkable creativity and talent, particularly when it came to quilting and sewing. A gifted quilter, she shared her knowledge and passion with others by teaching quilting at the Rolling Prairie Community Center for many years. She also worked as a seamstress for LeMans Academy, where her skill, patience, and careful attention to detail were evident in everything she created. Her beautiful handiwork was more than a pastime—it was an expression of her creativity and a gift she generously shared with those around her.

 

Service to others was an important part of Nancy’s life. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and faithfully volunteered with La Porte County Meals on Wheels for more than 22 years. Her dedication to delivering meals was a reflection of the generous spirit that defined her life. Nancy gave freely not only of her resources but, perhaps more importantly, of her time. She quietly and consistently looked for ways to help others and made a lasting difference in the lives of many throughout her community.

 

A longtime member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Nancy’s faith remained an important and guiding presence throughout her life.

 

At home, Nancy found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved gardening and took pride in tending to her flowers, creating beauty wherever she could. She also enjoyed playing cards and board games with family and friends, with Scrabble holding a special place among her favorites. Those fortunate enough to sit across the game table from Nancy knew they could expect both a little friendly competition and plenty of laughter.

 

Above all else, Nancy treasured her family. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose generosity and devotion knew no bounds. Her family will remember her for her giving heart, her remarkable talents, and her wonderful sense of humor. She had a way of bringing warmth and laughter into the lives of those around her, leaving behind countless memories that will continue to bring smiles for generations to come.

 

Nancy is survived by her children, Andrew Grimm, Tim Grimm (Sheila), Linda Whicker (Keith), and Diana Riley (Mark); ten grandchildren, Joseph Whicker, Kenneth Whicker, Kimberly Whicker Thompson (Raymond), Coffy Riley, Ian Riley, Jillian Riley Pointon (Eric), Gerard Grimm, Amanda Grimm Thresh (John), Taylore Grimm, and Morgan Grimm; nineteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Margaret “Peg” Manzuk and sister-in-law Anita Novak.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mary Novak; her beloved husband, Donald Grimm; four brothers, Joseph Novak, James Novak, Charles Novak, and David Novak; two sisters, Elsie Miceli and Dorothy Snow; three sisters-in-law, Teresa Novak, Beverly Novak and Carol Novak; and one daughter-in-law, Anna Wallis.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 1101 Michigan Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. Family and friends may visit at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will take place privately. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Service in La Porte has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.

Nancy’s 91 years were a beautiful testament to the lasting impact of a generous heart and a life devoted to family, faith, creativity, hard work, and service. Whether she was working alongside her husband in their family business, creating a treasured quilt, tending to her flowers, delivering a meal to someone in need, sharing a laugh over a game of Scrabble, or simply spending time with those she loved, Nancy gave a piece of herself to everything she did. Her loving nature, quick sense of humor, and extraordinary generosity will be deeply missed, but the warmth she brought into the lives of so many will remain a cherished part of her enduring legacy.
