Charlotte L. Ambers

Charlotte L. Ambers, 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 2, 1933, in La Porte, Indiana, to the late Virron and Ethel (Pace) Goodson.

 

On March 21, 1953, Charlotte married the love of her life, Raymond Ambers. Together they shared 71 wonderful years of marriage.

Charlotte and Raymond loved traveling together. They enjoyed many cruises, including unforgettable trips to Alaska and Hawaii. They also looked forward to fishing adventures in Canada, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, and treasured a special trip to New York City to attend the World's Fair.

 

Charlotte devoted many years of service to the City of La Porte before retiring. She proudly made history as the first female Street Commissioner for the City of La Porte, a role she loved and one in which she faithfully served her community. She was also a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where her faith remained an important part of her life.

 

She is survived by her four children: Nina (Doug) Reber of Muncie; Linda Kendall (John Doesburg) of La Porte; David Ambers of La Porte; and Christine (Joe) Ruszkiewicz of Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Eric Reber, Faye Reber, Amanda Dunn, Scott Kendall, Michael Kendall, Christopher Ambers, and Sarah Ambers; seven great-grandchildren; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

 

Charlotte was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Ambers; her parents; her brothers, Arland (Gene) and Virnon Goodson; and her sisters, Vivian Martin, Elizabeth Stevens, Laura Mae Day, and Jeanette Sullivan.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2026, at Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph Church, 109 C. Street, La Porte, Indiana.

 

Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2026, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.

 

Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.
