Diane L. Sass, September 18, 1954 - June 9, 2026.

Diane L. Sass, 71, Michigan City, IN, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 1:08 am in Franciscan Health - Michigan City.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Sass House. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.

She was born September 18, 1954 in Gary, IN, to the late Donald and Barbara (Schramm) Hernstrom. On May 16, 1981, in Michigan City, IN, she married Robert Sass who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are her daughter, Bobbi Sass of Michigan City, IN; son, Jeff (Jenny) Smith of Michigan City, IN; three grandchildren, Ellis Hernstrom, Remy Sipich and Cole Sipich; brother, Keith (Theresa) Hernstrom of Chesterton, IN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and bonus children and grandchildren.

She was also  preceded in death by her two sons, Matt Smith and Jeremy Hernstrom; sister, Denise Hernstrom; and brother, Wayne Hernstrom.

Diane had worked in quality control at Whirlpool Corporation. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed crocheting and camping.
