James B. Antrim, Jr.

James B. Antrim, Jr., 89, of La Porte, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Franciscan Health Crown Point.

He was born April 20, 1937, in Medaryville, Indiana, to James B. Antrim, Sr. and Ruth Ann (Koebcke) Antrim, and he joins his late parents in their eternal rest.

On November 2, 1963, James married the love of his life, Julie A. (Curtis) Antrim, who survives. They built a wonderful family together, including a daughter, Trudy (Brian) Menke, a son, James (Cindy) Antrim; six grandchildren, Jessica (Sam) Lewin, Deanna (Jeff) Grogan, Schasta Antrim, Clae Antrim, Cole Antrim, Floral Antrim; and one great-grandson, Brentley Antrim.

James received his Bachelor of Arts from Valparaiso University, where he studied Psychology and Business. He served in the Army as a Specialist 4 -Personnel. He returned home to work in a family Dairy Queen franchise in South Bend, Indiana, alongside his parents. Eventually moving back into a personnel capacity, he began with the prior Beatty Memorial Hospital in Westville, Indiana, and processed through its conversion to the Westville Correctional Center, spending the rest of his career as its Personnel Director.

Homer Cantley (deceased) became his step-father after his father’s passing, and he enjoyed adding his surviving step-sister, Barbara (Walter) Hartman and her family to his own as well as a step-brother, Roger Cantley (deceased).

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2026, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Road, La Porte, (219) 362-3100, with Pastor Dennis Meyer officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte, at a later time.
