Betty Rose (Granat) Hockney, 95, of Zionsville, Indiana, formerly of Union Mills, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Betty was born on October 27, 1930, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Frank and Sophie Granat.
She stayed busy raising her three boys and all their activities. Holidays were large get-togethers always served with a feast, and Jello. She especially loved when her children and grandchildren could get together. After a few years of assisting the Hanna School kindergarten teacher, she dedicated many years of service working in administration for Westville Corrections, where she was known for her strong work ethic and kind spirit. In the 60’s and 70’s, she taught high school Catechism at her home, where she integrated current events into the traditional teachings of the church in an amazing, interesting way. After her work career, she volunteered for the La Porte Hospital Auxiliary, where she became President, and served for many, many years. Betty and Vic loved playing penny ante poker, euchre, and pinochle with friends and family, having fun and laughs, and occasionally, you could hear that beautiful little giggle of hers. Betty was a good listener and mentored, counseled, supported, and comforted many friends and co-workers with her compassion and loving advice.
On April 19, 1952, Betty married the love of her life, Victor H. Hockney, who preceded her in death on January 24, 2015. Together, they shared many cherished years and built a loving family. Betty is survived by her children, Mark Hockney of Apex, North Carolina, Gary Hockney of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, and Kirk (Jeanine) Hockney of Zionsville, Indiana; her grandchildren, Jessica (Norm) Hicks of Rougemont, North Carolina, Amanda (Curtis) Hockney of Apex, North Carolina, Nicole (Andrew) Hockney of Seattle, Washington, and Sgt. Garrett Hockney of Wasilla, Alaska, Ashley Hockney of Los Angeles, California, Keegan Hockney of Indianapolis, Indiana, and her beloved great-grandchildren, Riley, Atticus, David, and Brayden.
Her siblings, with Margie surviving, are Michael C (Ann) Granat; Ann K (John A) Lichkia; Mary (Claude) Kring; Helene (Lambert) Froling; Frank C., Jr. (Cecelia) Granat; George (Susan) Granat; and Margie (Rex) Edwards.
