John William "Big John" Crosslin

John William “Big John” Crosslin, 80, of Whitleyville, Tennessee, formerly of Wanatah, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family.

John was born on May 21, 1945, to Howard and Georgia (Boger) Crosslin. He married the love of his life, Sue (Head) Crosslin, and together they shared 63 beautiful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, hard work, and unwavering devotion to their family.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Crosslin; his five daughters, Sharon Cox of La  Porte, Indiana, Debra and Howard Clifton of Wanatah, Indiana, Patti and Dave Zeman of Whitleyville, Tennessee, Lisa Watts of Whitleyville, Tennessee, and Brandi and Kevin Wilson of La Porte, Indiana. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, one great-great-grandchild, and his brother, Thomas H. Crosslin of La Porte, Indiana.

John was preceded in death by his son, John H.C. Crosslin; his parents, Howard and Georgia Crosslin; and his son-in-law, Larry Cox.

For 33 years, John worked at Bethlehem Steel, providing for his family through dedication, strength, and an unmatched work ethic. More than anything, John’s greatest pride in life was the family he loved so fiercely. He was the kind of man who made everyone feel safe, welcome, and cared for simply by being present.

Some of John’s happiest moments were spent around the family table — sharing stories, laughter, and meals during holidays, Sunday dinners, and family gatherings that became treasured traditions. He was affectionately known as the “King of Dominos,” always ready for a game and always the one everyone hoped to beat. His playful spirit, unique way of saying words backwards, and unforgettable sense of humor brought endless smiles to those around him.

Despite his larger-than-life presence, John had the gentlest heart. He was truly a gentle giant — kind, patient, and loving to everyone he met. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew him as a steady source of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love.

The memories John created with his family will live on for generations. Though his absence leaves an ache that words cannot express, the love he gave so freely will continue to guide and comfort those who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Graceland Cemetery, 1505 E. Morthland Dr., Valparaiso, Indiana 46383, with Pastor Joseph Watterson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with funeral services immediately following and burial to take place afterward.

John was deeply loved, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
