Kathleen S. Cavalenes, 74, Michigan City, IN, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026, at 5:24 am in Aperion Care Arbors -  Michigan City.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN, with Brother Shaun Gray officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am on Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
She was born on December 14, 1951, in Chicago, IL, to the late Edward and Elizabeth (Hutton) Kopanski. On February 22, 1975, in Chicago, IL, she married George Cavalenes, who survives in Michigan City, IN. Also surviving are her daughter, Cynthia (Michael) Maybury of Crest Hill, IL; son, George E. Cavalenes of Champaign, IL; grandchild, Michael C. Maybury of Crest Hill, IL, and her nephew, whom she raised, James E. Kopanski.
She graduated from Forman High School in 1969 and from Indiana University in 2010. Kathleen worked in various jobs as she always welcomed a new challenge and never retired, as she enjoyed work. She taught CCD at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Lemont, IL, and was active in Boy Scouts as well as Girl Scouts.
