CPO, USN (Ret.) David William Conklin Jr, 41, of La Porte, passed away unexpectedly at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
He was born January 21, 1985, in La Porte, to David William Conklin Sr. and Kathy Hagar.
On May 1, 2017, he married Ma. Niña (Sagocsoc) Conklin who survives.
In October of 2003, David entered the United States Navy, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer before retiring 22 years later in October of 2025. After retiring, David, along with Niña and their daughter, McKenna, moved to the La Porte area. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his daughter.
David is also survived by his daughter, McKenna; his fur babies, Bodie and Kyra; his mother, Kathy Hager-Draves (Michael); his siblings, Tony (Jenna) Conklin, Noelle (Bryan) Conklin, Kayla (Matt) O’Day, Lexi (Zach) Simms, Kristinia Miller, and Nicholas Burr; nieces and nephews, Connor, Whitney, Myles, William, Gabriel, and Drake.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joan Owen, and Bill and Ellen Hager.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte (219) 362-3100. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
