James A. Metts, 77, formerly of Hanna, IN, passed away at 8:24 P.M. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at his home.
He was born May 20, 1948, in La Porte, IN, to Robert E. and Louise E. (Hicks) Metts.
On September 5, 1971, he married Judith Nash, and she survives.
James was a 1967 South Central High School Graduate and attended Vincennes University. Following high school, he proudly served in the United States Army, including one year in Vietnam. James worked for Kankakee Valley REMC for 25 years, trimming trees and reading meters. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and simply being out in nature. James loved music, dogs, and trivia, and will be remembered as a walking encyclopedia.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Metts; daughter, Jennifer (Scott) Shaffer; granddaughters, Lydia Shaffer, Callie Shaffer, and Ella Shaffer; and sisters Linda Wright, Becky Hildreth, and Donna Deutscher.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 P.M. Monday, April 27, 2026, at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 East Main Street, Greentown, with Pastor Steve Gollner officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 P.M. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
A graveside service with military honors will be at 3:00 P.M. Eastern Time, Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in Hanna Cemetery, Hanna, IN.
