Florene C. Penny, 95, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Florene was born on October 18, 1930, in Lake City, AR, to John and Eppie Cunningham.
In La Porte, IN, she married James "Alvin" Penny, who preceded her in death.

Surviving Florene are her children, Stephen Penny of La Porte and Linda Gilliam of La Porte; 3 grandchildren, Blake Penny of La Porte, Taylor Gilliam of Bloomington, and Rosco Gilliam of Michigan City; granddaughter, Kaylani Leona Sue Penny; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and young daughter, Karen Sue Penny.
Florene worked as a time clerk at Allis-Chalmers for many years. For over 50 years, along with her husband, Florene enjoyed growing produce, which they sold at their roadside produce stand.
She will be fondly remembered for her kindness and generosity shown to others. When she and Alvin had their roadside produce stand, it wasn't uncommon for them to offer their produce to families that were in need. Florene always had an ear to share and a heart to love others.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Richard Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, and from 10 a .m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
