Randolph "Randy" Thomas Matanic

Randolph "Randy" Thomas Matanic, 82, of La Porte, IN, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Northwest Health La Porte, with family by his side.
Randy was born on October 2, 1943, in Chicago, IL, to Robert and Louise (Schlorf) Matanic.
On March 11, 1965, in Chicago, IL, he married Judith Luebke, who survives. Also surviving are his 3 children, Malissa (Tim) McArthur of La Vernia, TX, Andrew (Jennifer) Matanic of Walkerton, and Becky Matanic of La Porte; 4 grandchildren, Alex (Haley) Matanic of Gonzales, TX, and Nathan, Erin, and Everett Matanic of Walkerton; brother, Fred (Janeen) Matanic of North Judson; sister-in-law, Charlene Thomson of Endwell, NY; nieces, Lisa (Phil) Plageman of Boston, MA, Ellen (Tom) Doyle of Malvern, PA, and Allison Young of Cedar Lake; and nephew, Phillip (Kim) Matanic of Whiting.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Stephanie Matanic; brother, Robert Matanic; and brother-in-law, Herman "Bro" Luebke.
Randy was an Indiana State Police Trooper for 32 years, retiring as a Master Trooper. After his retirement, he was an LPCSC bus driver, where he enjoyed building relationships with the middle and high school students on his route.
He was a member of the Indiana State Police Alliance and the Salem Chapel United Methodist Church.
Randy enjoyed gardening, animals, birds, meteorology, and being in nature. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Trish Johnsen officiating.
A time of visitation will be held from 2:30 - 8 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation will take place following the service. Burial at Kingsbury Cemetery will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Salem Chapel UMC, 2802 E. State Road 4, La Porte, IN 46350, or to the Indiana State Police Alliance, 4231 W. 96th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46268.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff who cared for Randy while at Northwest Health-La Porte, as well as Heart to Heart Hospice.
