Gerald Dean Kindig, Sr.

Gerald Dean Kindig Sr., a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at the age of 91 in his hometown of La Porte, Indiana.

Born on January 6, 1935, in La Porte to the late Emery and Alta (Arndt) Kindig, Gerald—known affectionately to his friends and family—shared a beautiful and enduring love with his wife, Patricia Kindig. They were married on August 23, 1958, and their marriage was blessed with many joyful years and a loving family. Patricia preceded Gerald in death on May 9, 2025.

A devoted father, Gerald’s spirit will live on through his children, Cindy (Randy) Gillen of La Porte, Diane Davis of La Porte, Becky (John) Skibinski of Michigan City, Jerry (Patti) Kindig Jr. of La Porte, and Joe Davis. His legacy also continues through his many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by a sister, Cleo Bach of Illinois. Gerald’s family was the center of his world, and he served as a steady and loving anchor in their lives.

Gerald and Patricia enjoyed spending their time as snowbirds, dividing the year between Jupiter, Florida, and La Porte. This lifestyle allowed them to enjoy Florida's warmth while remaining connected to the community they loved back home. His enthusiasm for garage sales was unmatched; he was always on the lookout for hidden treasures. Gerald restored bicycles and sold them. He bowled in leagues and played horseshoes into his late 80’s.

Gerald spent many years selling cars with La Porte Chrysler Plymouth, where he became well known and respected by many in the community. He had worked at the former La Porte Mattress Factory before selling cars. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Above all, Gerald will be remembered as a kind, loving, and generous father and grandfather. His family will fondly remember his guidance, unwavering support, and the countless ways he enriched their lives. His character reflected the very best of compassion, kindness, and generosity—qualities that will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to know him.

Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.

A funeral service will follow the visitation at 7:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Ahlemeyer officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
