Susan M. Borton, 70, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 2:15 a.m. at Life Care Center of Michigan City.
A celebration of life will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #75, 416 US 20, Michigan City, IN 46360. Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, is handling arrangements.
She was born July 27, 1955, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Derald and Doris (Woodruff) Chaplin. On March 24, 1974, in Michigan City, Indiana, she married Rex Borton, who preceded her in death on September 4, 1997.
Surviving are her son, Derald Borton; a second son, Scott Hujar of Michigan City, Indiana; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Derald Chaplin; her mother, Doris Chaplin; her husband, Rex Borton; fourteen brothers and sisters; and five sons.
Susan graduated from Elston High School, Class of 1974. She worked many years in retail as a cashier and retired from Clark Gas Station in 1995. She was a member of the FOP Dunes Lodge #75 in Michigan City, the La Porte County Democratic Civic Club, and the Moose Family Center #980, where she earned the Academy of Friendship Degree. Susan was extremely involved in politics and was a strong supporter of the La Porte Democratic Party.
She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching soap operas in her spare time. She would often say to her son, “Inside voice.”
