David James Wilson

Notorious corny jokester, David James Wilson, 82, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Northwest Health La Porte. Born on February 4, 1944, to Rufus and Mary (Heeter) Wilson, David was the second of 3 sons.
In his early years, he worked at the Coca-Cola bottle plant in Valparaiso. He loved to watch the Ed Sullivan Show, Svengoolie, and The Three Stooges, his favorite being "Niagara Falls!". He also enjoyed vintage cars and traveling, including such trips to Mexico, the Canary Islands, Greece, Jamaica, and Israel. On his trip to Israel, he visited the Holy Land of Jerusalem with the Minister of Defense, Reggie White.
Later in his life, David turned his focus to driving semi trucks, earning several safety awards. Upon his retirement to La Porte, David found purpose in the Salvation Army, where he served as a chaplain.
David is preceded in death by both parents and his two brothers, Clifton and Harold.
He leaves behind no children, but 2 nieces, Dawn (Jet) Risner and April (Tom) Green; many great-nieces and great nephews, who loved him just the same; and everyone else fortunate to call him "friend".
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the La Porte Salvation Army, 3240 Monroe St., with lunch to follow. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the La Porte Salvation Army.
