Lila was born on July 23, 1934, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Jacob and Jennie (Nick) Abraham. On March 11, 1960, she married Melvin A. Ivey, with whom she shared many years of love and companionship until his passing on March 9, 1997.
Lila is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Linda (Norman) Pinkepank of La Porte, Indiana; her grandson, Richard Pinkepank of La Porte, Indiana; and her sister-nieces, Diane (Dan) Frankowski of Michigan City, Indiana, and Charlene (Cliff) DeLonis of South Bend, Indiana; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Debra Willsey; her five brothers, Norman, Ollie, John, Charles, and Hassen Abraham; and her sister, Madeline (Hassan) Habhab.
A proud member of the Michigan City Elston High School Class of 1952, Lila later attended Commonwealth Business College in La Porte. She enjoyed a fulfilling career at Joy Manufacturing Company, where she worked as a junior draftsman, photography technician, and printing technician. One of her most cherished memories was serving as an editor of the Trail Creek Boosters during the 1960s and 1970s, often saying it was the most fun she ever had.
Lila was a member of the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary and a charter member of the Trail Creek Booster Club, the Michigan City Senior Center, and Hillcrest Methodist Church. In her quieter moments, she found joy in sewing, crocheting, stamp collecting, and solving puzzles - hobbies that reflected her patience, creativity, and love of learning.
Memorial contributions may be made in Lila’s memory to Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Avenue, Valparaiso, Indiana 46383.
