James Delbert Alm, 85, of Hanna, Indiana, passed away Friday, December 12, 2025, at VNA Hospice of Northwest Indiana in Valparaiso, IN.
He was born in Lowell, Indiana, to Fred C. Alm and Martha (Alm) Alm.
James married Sandra Dillingham, who survives.
James was a sheet metal worker for many years and a member of Local 20 of the Portage union. He was a highly talented man who could do almost anything, except plumbing. James loved woodworking, fishing, collecting guns, and anything related to the outdoors. He used to ride horses with his wife and was handy at keeping all the yard equipment running well. He was also known in Hanna for playing basketball, something he was very good at. Most of all, James loved his family and will be truly missed by all.
Also surviving are his son, Daniel Alm; daughter, Danelle Cavinder; one sister, Shirley Eahorn; three grandchildren, Hannah Eaton, Noah Eaton, and D.J.; and great-grandchild, Declan Alm.
James was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ed Alm; brother, Charles Alm; brother, Richard Alm; sisters, Marion Alm, Louise Newby, and Helen O'Kelly; and granddaughter, Dannae Alm.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, (219) 362-3333. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Kendall Schaeffer officiating. Private interment will be at Hanna Cemetery, Hanna.
