Michael "Mike" Gene Moss

Michael "Mike" Gene Moss, February 24, 1958 - November 1, 2025.
Michael "Mike" Gene Moss, 67, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 2:50 a.m. in Franciscan Health - Michigan City, with his sons by his side.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN, with the D.A.V. chaplain officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral chapel.
He was born on February 24, 1958, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Arthur Gene and Ruth Ann (Hefner) Moss.
Surviving are his two sons, Nicholas and Jason Moss, both of Michigan City, Indiana;  one grandchild, Kaitlyn (Ethan) Moss; one great-grandchild on the way; one grand-puppy, Jaxon; six siblings, Steven C. (Dawn) Moss, Arthur S. (Christy) Moss, Christopher J. (Amy) Moss, James Moss, Debra (Jeff) Berg, and Mary (Jeffery Smith) Moss; aunt, Betty Bowden; three cousins, Kimberly (Danny) Hefner-Brown, Angela (Brian) Kniola, and Jane Avila; eleven nephews and nieces, Shannon (Angie) Moss, Jeremy Moss, Jamie Moss, Richie Hefner, Christopher Moss, Jr., Jonathan Moss, Maria Moss, Jacob Lewis-Powless, Lynsey (Larry Jr.) Gust, Kara Hefner, Adelia Berry, and several great-great nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, cousin, Janet Lewis, and his beloved dog, Nemo.
Mike honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1980. His specialty was Machine Gunner. 
He was a Fire Captain for the Michigan City Fire Department, retiring in 2012 after 31 years of service. Also, he was a LaPorte County First Responder, Fire Medic, and Firefighter I/II.  During this time, he earned an Associate's Degree in Fire Science from IVY Tech, with many classes in leadership, hazmat, and technical rescue. Mike enjoyed ent softball team.
Mike was a Chapter Member of the D.A.V. Chapter 23, Michigan City; and
proudly served as Treasurer until his passing.
Mike loved spending time with his sons, his precious granddaughter, and curling up on the chair with his grand-puppy. He joyfully played Santa for Shop With A Cop and for the children of family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing darts, listening to music, and watching the Chicago Bears and Notre Dame football games.
