Dorothy May Underwood

Mrs. Dorothy May Underwood, 88, of Union Mills, passed away peacefully at 4:26 p.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at her home in Union Mills, surrounded by loving family.

She was born on March 3, 1937, in Knox, Indiana, to Glen and Gladys Irene (Risner) Fletcher.

On November 17, 1962, Dorothy married Darwin B. Underwood, who preceded her in death.

Dorothy retired from Modine's after working for thirty-plus years as a core assembler. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian in Union Mills for 60 years and also enjoyed spending quality time with friends and family. She was a truly loving soul who was the family caretaker. Dorothy was a volunteer for the conservation club and was an auxiliary member with the American Legion. She enjoyed making Thanksgiving and Christmas meals and bowling. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family mattered to her most of all, and she loved taking care of kids. Dorothy was a beautiful person inside and out, who will be truly missed by all of those who loved and knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Darla Stone; two sons, Cleo Charles "Pete" (Etchon) Eaton, Frank (Samantha) Underwood; sister, Carol (Randy) Stefan; four granddaughters, Crystal, Ashley, Elizabeth, and Corey; one grandson, Brian; ten great-grandchildren, Pyper, Ira, Sofie, Leo, Elijah, Faith, Brayden, Aria, Emmett, Emberly, and Keiran.

Dorothy was also preceded in death by her Parents, son, Glen Mathew Eaton; brother, Gene Fletcher; sister, Kathleen Koontz; granddaughter, Briana, grandson, Baby Frank.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, (219) 362-3333. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Roger Officiating. A private burial will take place at Union Mills Cemetery.
