Richard "Richie" Dennis Mahaffey, September 17, 1970 - September 23, 2025.
Richard "Richie" Dennis Mahaffey, 55, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois.
He was born on September 17, 1970, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Dennis and Mary (Ordino) Mahaffey. On May 15, 1993, in Michigan City, Indiana, he married Nichole (Watts) Mahaffey, who survives in Michigan City.
Also surviving are his son, Alexander Jake Mahaffey, and wife, Miranda (Brown) Mahaffey of Michigan City, Indiana. Also by his daughter, Miranda Mary Mahaffey of Michigan City, Indiana; two brothers, Timothy (Kristina) Mahaffey of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Robert (Wende) Gliva of Walkerton, Indiana; step-mother, Janis Mahaffey of Michigan City, Indiana; aunt, Joanne Mahaffey and her daughters of Michigan City, Indiana; nephew, Preston Mahaffey; niece, Mary Mahaffey; mother-in- aw, Joan Salat of La Porte, Indiana; one grandchild, Nolan Arthur Mahaffey; The Esper and The Tiedeman Families of Michigan City, Indiana; aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family from New Jersey; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews from Arkansas and Columbus, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, Ralph and Marge Mahaffey; maternal grandparents, Charles and Carol Ordino; and uncle, Pat Mahaffey. Also by his two fathers-in-law, Dave Watts and Andrew Salat.
Richie was a proud 4th-generation owner of L & R Body Shop in Michigan City. He took yearly family fishing trips to Canada. Richie enjoyed bowling, family vacations, nature, fishing, hiking, and camping. He was a firm believer in the folk tale of Sasquatch. Richie took trips with his wife to different spots to try new craft beers, as he was a craft beer enthusiast. Richie enjoyed craft beers with the Beer of the Month Club. He also loved to indulge in Italian and Lebanese cuisines. 
Richie has truly been the best blessing in life to his family. He believed in responsibilities and caring for his family. Richie was known to gain his sweetness from his parents. He loved his children more than anything in his life. He loved and cherished all the time he spent with his wife and children. Richie will be sorely missed. 
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, is handling the arrangements.
