Jacob Phillip Povlock

Jacob Phillip Povlock, June 25, 1931 - August 30, 2025.
Jacob Phillip "Jack" Povlock was born June 25, 1931, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Jake and Marie (Wisthoff) Povlock. He was the second oldest of ten siblings.
In his younger years, he worked as a pin setter at the bowling alley and also worked at the Burnham Glove Factory. Jack went to St. Mary's grade school and graduated in 1949 from St. Mary's High School. In 1950, at nineteen years old, he started working for the Indiana Bell Telephone Company. In 1952, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. As a result of completing a correspondence course in radio repair earlier, in addition to having some knowledge of electrical work from his years with the phone company, he had an aptitude for radio repair and easily passed the entrance exam. Jack did his technical training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and worked as a radar repairman in the Army. The remainder of his time was spent in Washington State. After years in the Army he was rehired to Indiana Bell. He worked as an install man as well as a repairman, and after working for the company for over forty years, he retired in 1991.
On a Snowy day in February 1957, at St. Mary the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jack married the love of his life, Kathleen Rae Snook, who preceded him in death on October 18, 2022. They were married for 65 years. Surviving are two children, a son, Drew (Becky)  Povlock of Trail Creek, and a daughter, Beth (Todd) Pilarski of Indianapolis. Jack and his wife Katie were active members of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, where they were instrumental in the founding success of SPARC, a social group for senior members of the parish. Jack was a hard worker and could fix anything, including a broken heart with his gentle ways. Jack was a member of the Michigan Rifle Club in the late 1960s and 1970s, where he won numerous trophies for bullseye pistol shooting as a lefty. In his younger days, Jack enjoyed fishing, squirrel, and rabbit hunting, especially with his brother Lee. Jack would often educate his children and grandchildren with his countless stories and memories of his life and experiences, and he was quite knowledgeable about the history of Michigan City as well as many other things.
One of his favorite memories was a trip he took with his brother Lee, where they traced and followed the route of their father and visited many of the locations he had lived and worked while following the harvest on a motorcycle in the early part of the last century.
We all know that Mom was waiting for his arrival at the pearly gates with a long list of things for him to do, and he loved it !!
