Richard Lee Granacki, born on January 16, 1943, in Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on June 2, 2025, in Debary, Florida. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A proud Air Force veteran, Richard served his country with honor, a testament to his dedication and sense of duty. He attended St. Stanislaus Catholic School before graduating from Elston High School in Michigan City. He furthered his education at Purdue University, a pursuit that positioned him for a fulfilling life. Richard was a devout Catholic and attended every Sunday.
Richard was known for his infectious sense of humor and a penchant for sharing corny Dad jokes that would draw laughter from family and friends alike. His family lovingly referred to him as the "Chevy Chase" of the family, reminiscent of the beloved Clark Griswold character, showcasing his knack for bringing joy and lightness into every situation. Richard had an adventurous spirit, with a profound love for theme parks and roller coasters, alongside a passion for gardening and planning memorable family vacations.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Eva; his daughter Brandy (Trey) Abshier; his son, Chandler Granacki; his sister, Patricia Dolzal; and his cherished grandchildren Harper, Savannah, and Lake. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Eva Granacki, and his son, Paul Granacki.
A Mass in Richard’s honor will be held on August 30, 2025, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, located at 109 Ann Street in Michigan City, Indiana, beginning at 10:00 AM. Following the Mass, he will be laid to rest at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 1015 Greenwood Ave., at 11:15 AM.
Richard Lee Granacki’s warmth, humor, and love for family left an indelible mark on all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
