Joe David Coyer, 60, of Hamlet, Indiana, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, in his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
Joe was born on May 6, 1965, in Wabash, Indiana, to the late Gus David Coyer Jr. and Barbara Kay (Nablo) Scarborough.
Joe was a skilled tradesman working in the plastering/masons industry his entire life. Both Union Masons/Plasterers Local 692 and residential. Joe was known as the Master of Stucco, not only working it but teaching others the trade. He was proud of his company, JD Coyer Plastering and JDC Stucco, his own business in this trade.
Joe had a compassionate and kind soul for adults and children, and most of all for those with disabilities. He loved to read stories to his bonus grandchildren, take them to parks, and go for walks with his special dogs Jose' and Josey Wales. He was a kid at heart and loved adventures and funny movies. Joe had many talents; he loved carpentry, and he enjoyed building homes and crafting projects in stucco, wood, and concrete. He also loved to decorate for the holidays, Halloween being his favorite.
Joe is survived by his sisters, Tobie (Jeff) Cox of Union Mills, Tammy (Gordon) Bell of Union Mills, twin sister, Joy (Orlando) Dunlap of Kingsford Heights; special nephews, Gus Castle and Edmund Castle III, and many other nieces and nephews; his partner of 20 years, Ella Dorsett; his bonus children, Samantha, Brandi, Justin, Jamison, and Kayt; and bonus grandchildren, Gabriel, Clare and Anthony. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Terry.
A Celebration of Life will be from 11 AM to 12 noon on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Frank L.Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.
