Karen Lee Asbell, 68, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Northwest Health-La Porte.
Karen was born on September 16, 1956, in Kennett, MO, to Richard and Margaret (Shank) Schneider.
Karen is survived by her children: Tommy (Nadean) Shanks of Mariposa, CA, Katie (Joey) Holt of Carthage, NC and Elija (Shaina) Poulos of La Porte, IN; grandchildren: Lee Shanks, LeeAnne Shanks, Bryant Winchell, Jacob Shanks, Noah Winchell, Hayley Poulos, Gage Holt, Tatum Holt, and Jeremiah Poulos; sisters: Robin (John) Searls, Barbara Nichols, Babette (Tom) Stewart, and Julie Konicke; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Karen spent her adult life as a homemaker, caring for her children during their childhood years. Karen was happy with a Dr. Pepper, a Double Decker Taco Supreme from Taco Bell, an almond rocha, circus peanuts, or a coffee. She absolutely loved her "girly time" of going shopping, getting her nails done (usually purple, her favorite color), and going out for a nice lunch. But above all else, "Grammy K" would tell you that what made her happiest was her seven grandbabies. Whether in person or over video chat, nothing would bring out the sparkle in her eyes like getting to see them.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
