Steven Melnyk, 72, New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 11:00 am in his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm, Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, with Rebecca Crain officiating. Private family burial will follow in New Carlisle Cemetery, New Carlisle, Indiana. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 10:30 am -12:30 pm, in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.
He was born August 9, 1952, in La Porte, Indiana, to the late Theodore S. and Lois (Allen) Melnyk. On December 15, 1973, in Michigan City, Indiana, he married Janet Brooks, who survives, in New Carlisle, Indiana. Also surviving are two daughters, Heather (Ally Kazmucha) Melnyk of San Jose, California, and Holly (Jeffrey) Sipes of New Carlisle, Indiana; two grandchildren, Sadie Liggett of New Carlisle, Indiana, and Dylan Liggett of South Bend, Indiana, along with a brother, Theodore "Ted" (Jill) Melnyk of La Porte, Indiana; He was preceded in death by sister, Toni Sydow.
Steve retired after 30 years with NIPSCO as a serviceman. He had a real passion for golf, playing in numerous golf leagues, and enjoyed playing in the Michigan City Golf tournament for many years. Steve was a US Naval Veteran and a member of the USS Ogden yearly reunion group and enjoyed traveling with Janet, especially to the San Diego, California area.
