Karlon attended St. Mary’s Grade School and High School and Notre Dame University.
He was very family-oriented - wouldn't miss any events his children or grandchildren were participating in - and was very generous, as he would help anyone. He also loved the outdoors, including hunting, snow skiing, boating, and fishing, and enjoyed Sudoku at the highest level (Nightmare level).
Karlon was a Charter member of Notre Dame parish, American Legion (Skwiat Post) # 451, Navy League of the United States, Notre Dame men's club, BPO Elks Lodge # 432, and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #980, a long-standing Long Beach Country Club, Senior Center of Michigan City, St. Joe Club, Community Center of Waikiki, Hawaii, Usher- Notre Dame church for many years, Optimist Club - Michigan City, Knights of Columbus - South Bend, VFW Hawaii Post #8616.
He proudly served in the Army as an Assistant and Photographer to General Russell, 40th AAA Brigade in the Pacific Arena, stationed in Japan from December 8th, 1955, to November 11, 1957. He then served in the Reserves until December 7, 1961. In 1957, he joined his father, uncle, and brother at Kuhn Beer Distributors and retired in 1987 as the President.
Upon his death, the staff and military members of TAMC paid tribute to him with the Honor Walk, a ceremonial walk including members of his family to commemorate a Military Veteran as a salute to their military service. In another special ceremony, a Flag and Medallion from the Hawaii VFW Post #8616 was presented to his wife.
Being cremated, a Memorial Mass will be held at Notre Dame Church in Michigan City, IN, at 10:00 am on Monday, July 7, 2025. Visitation will be from 9:30 am - 10:00 am on Monday at the church. Burial will be at a later date.
