Melissa "Missy" Ann Bennett, 59, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in Franciscan Health - Crown Point.
Missy's celebration of life will be held from 2 to 7 p.m., Monday, June 9, 2025, at Red Mill County Park, 0185 S. Holmesville Rd., La Porte, Indiana. Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, Indiana, is handling the arrangements.
Missy was born on October 9, 1965, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Dennis and Sandra (Cavin) Phillips.
Surviving are her child, Rae Bennett of Michigan City, Indiana; her mother, Sandi Phillips of Michigan City, Indiana; one uncle, Larry Phillips of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and one she holds close to her heart, Sandy Bennett.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Phillips, and two uncles, Michael and Aaron Phillips.
Missy was a school bus driver at La Porte Community School Corporation for over a decade. She was loved and cherished by her family, friends, and coworkers, but especially the parents and students she served and met while driving the school bus. She made riding the bus fun by decorating the bus and passing out candy to the kids. Missy cared and loved the kids who rode her bus, driving her passion for participating in toy and food drives, and donating Christmas gifts to families in need. Missy was a member of the local union of the La Porte ESPs. She enjoyed nature and loved her pets, Sherlock, Geneva, and Cinnamon. Missy was a diehard lifelong Chicago Bears fan, always loudly cheering her team on. She was a wonderful mother and daughter. Missy will be terribly missed.
