John Wayne "Spanky" Shoupe

John Wayne (Spanky) Shoupe, January 18, 1964-May 30, 2025.

John Wayne (Spanky) Shoupe, 61, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, at Northwest Health-La Porte, Indiana, with his loving family at his side.

He was born January 18, 1964, in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Larry Ray Shoupe Sr. and Ruth Ann (Gray) Shoupe.

A lifelong resident of the area, John, or "Spanky" as he was lovingly known, left high school to begin his truck driving career, which he loved. He was an owner/operator and spent many hours traveling the highways of America. His Harley was his other mechanical passion, allowing him the additional feeling of freedom when he wasn't in his 18-wheeler. John's greatest allegiance, though, was to his fellow man- he never met a stranger, and he would give the shirt off his back if someone was in need. His family was his pride and joy, and he especially adored being a grandfather, sharing his humor, his worldly wisdom, and his love.

He is survived by his daughter, Ashley (Adam) Wisenbaugh; sisters, Tina (Tony) Singleton of Bloomington, IN, Deanna (Jeff) Barger of Kingsbury, IN, Samantha McCormick of Chesterton, IN; brothers, Larry "Dutch" (Julie) Shoupe Jr. of Valparaiso, IN, Richard Gene (Kristie) Shoupe of LaCrosse, IN; "other brother"  Daryl (Tina) Darnell of Portage, IN; 2 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Raeanne Fisher, and brother-in-law, Robbie McCormick.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN, where the family will receive friends for a viewing on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday, June 6, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, a funeral service will be held at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN.

Memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the American Diabetes Asso., PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116, or online to www.diabetes.org.
