Laura "Laurie" Kathryn Kiger, 69, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Laurie was born on August 31, 1955, in La Porte, IN, to Myron "Whitey" and A. Kathryn (Wetter) Thornburg.

On October 16, 1998, in Las Vegas, NV, she married Douglas, who survives. Also surviving are her 2 sons, Kyle (Andrea) Ahlgrim of La Porte and Tyler Ahlgrim of La Porte; stepdaughter, Angela (Terry) Smith of La Porte; stepson, Douglas (Melissa) Kiger, Jr. of FL; granddaughter, Grace Ahlgrim of La Porte; grandson, Harrison Ahlgrim of La Porte; brother, Dave (Debi) Thornburg of La Porte; sister-in-law, Jan Thornburg of Rolling Prairie; dogs, Maggie and Thor; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Phil Thornburg, and dogs Harley, Jetta, and Falko.

Laurie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 83.  She enjoyed waiting for the arrival of the hummingbirds every spring and watching them as long as they'd return to the feeders.  Laurie also enjoyed playing Candy Crush.  Most importantly, Laurie loved spending time with her family and cherished the time she had with her grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Tim Ahlemeyer officiating.

A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Cremation will take place following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Jane Bernard Animal Adoption Center, 2855 West State Road 2, La Porte, IN 46350.
