Barbara Blandford Gervais, August 3, 1927-January 23, 2025.
Barbara Blandford Gervais was born and raised in the Hammond area of Indiana. She attended schools within the Hammond School System. She was the daughter of Robert and Naomi Blandford. Barbara met her future husband, William, during her summers in Cedar Lake Indiana. She was a strong student and truly enjoyed her school days. She married William Gravis in Hammond.
As a young bride, she worked as a housewife and school aide/teacher in a Catholic school in South Bend. During that period, Barbara and Bill adopted Rebecca. They enjoyed her school days in South Bend. During her School days in South Bend, William became a Farmer's Insurance Agent and was given La Porte as his geographic location. So, they started in a new office.
Barb and Bill worked as partners in their Lincoln Way office. These two were a lovable team that enjoyed their work and loved the people of La Porte. Both became involved in the La Porte community. Bill handled the setup of the policies and general account information. Barbara was the office manager. Bill always said that Barbara was the love of his life and he did not know what he would do without her.
In the Gervais family, there was nothing more fun than a Gervais party. The party always included good food contributed by all, gifts, and definitely card playing. Barbara always made the gravy. Poker was usually the number one on the agenda. Sometimes, a new game would be played. Those never seemed to last as long as poker was still part of the plan. Oh, what happened at the card table stayed at the card table! All of that family time is something we will never forget.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. Cremation has taken place.
