Elvira S. Ruiz

Elvira S Ruiz, September 12, 1946-January 20, 2025.
Elvira Ruiz, 78, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Monday, January 20, 2025, at her home in La Porte, IN.
Elvira "Vida" Ruiz was born on September 12, 1946, in Santa Rosa, Texas, as the daughter of Everisto and Liberada (Perez) Sanchez.
Vida was a fierce, loving, and God-fearing woman who devoted her life to providing a better life and opportunity for her family. She showered her children and grandchildren with unconditional love, support, and guidance. Vida believed in hard work. She demonstrated her loyalty through her career at American Renolit for forty (40) years. She was independent. She never asked for help, but she was the first one to help others however she could (even if that meant going on a mission to Mexico). Vida was an amazing cook. She enjoyed making meals for her friends and family. She enjoyed taking walks at Kesling and downtown LaPorte. She would greet friends and strangers alike with a smile, kind words, and a quick prayer. She made a point to pray for everyone, even all of those individuals that no one else was praying for while finding solace in her bible. Vida tried the best she could to give back what God had blessed her with: a trait she instilled in her family.

Vida married Ricardo Ruiz in July of 1965. Together they had two children Ritch and Anna. Vida also took a large part in raising her grandchildren who were blessed to have an immensely involved grandmother. She enjoyed her first great-granddog, Bentley, so much so that she retired to assist with his caregiving. Vida would later get a dog of her own and her companion until the end, Winnie. She instilled her independence in her daughter and granddaughter raising them to be able to care for themselves while lovingly steering their own families. She is sorely missed, but never forgotten.

She is survived by her daughter, Anna (Robert) Metts; son, Ritch (Sandy) Ruiz; six grandchildren, Andria (Nate) Oaks, Cody (Jena) Ruiz, Quinten Metts, Elijah Metts, Nathan (Tricia) Metts, Tyler (Selena) Metts; eight great-grandchildren, Wyatt Oaks, Rylan Metts, Noah Metts, Johnny Metts, Jazmine Metts, Ezreal Metts, Mateo Metts, Maci Metts; sister, Lala Rodriguez; two brothers, Chico Sanchez, Emanuel Sanchez.
Vida was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jose Sanchez, brother, Cheo Sanchez, and brother, Chema Sanchez.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN, where the family will receive friends on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from noon until service time at 3 p.m. with _______ officiating. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions may be made in Elvira's name to the La Porte County Animal Shelter, 2855 IN-2, La Porte, IN 46350, or Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Ave, Valparaiso, IN 46383.
