Richard J. Bishop, 87, from La Porte, Indiana, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 7:06 pm in Northwest Health-La Porte.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 2, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Buffalo & 10th Streets, Michigan City, Indiana with Fr. David Kime officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, on Thursday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN.
He was born July 7, 1937, in Michigan City, IN. On June 10, 1961, in Wanatah, IN he married Suzanne Grott who preceded him on October 25, 2020.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna (Curtis) Hager and Diana Bishop both of La Porte, IN; four sons, Steven (Betty) Bishop of Hudson Lake, IN, Michael (Susan) Bishop of La Porte, IN, David (Gretchen) Bishop of Jonesborough, TN, and Patrick (Lisa) Bishop of La Porte, IN; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline (Tomenko) Bishop; and son, Darren Bishop.
Richard retired as an assembler at Sullair and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He enjoyed fishing, camping, NASCAR, tinkering around the house, and helping his family. Richard was devoted to his religion.
