William E. "Bill" Haugen, Jr.
William E. “Bill” Haugen, Jr., age 93, of La Porte, IN passed away on November 14, 2024, at his home in La Porte. Bill was born on November 27, 1930, in Hudson, WI to the late William Haugen, Sr. and Gwendolyn Canton Haugen. He is the grandson of early Hudson clothing merchant Christian E. Haugen. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1948, attended Carleton College, and was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. On February 19, 1955, he was united in marriage to Mildred Locke Oates in Faison, NC who preceded him in death in August 1993. Bill had a lifelong passion for band music and played in municipal bands in Hudson and Neenah, WI. He enjoyed his hobbies of woodworking and family genealogy. He belonged to Hadeland Lag, an organization of the descendants of Norwegian immigrants. He worked as an industrial purchasing agent for over forty years and retired in 1994 from Air Liquide America in Houston, TX. After retirement, he moved north to La Porte, IN where on December 8, 2000, he married Arlene Peterson who survives. Also surviving are his sister Marion Kyle (Ben) of Manhattan, KS, sons William Haugen III (Susan Anderson) of Florrisant, MO, Chris E. Haugen (Joy) of Lafayette, IN, and daughter Jaunda Kneller (Dr. G. Larsen) of La Porte, IN, stepdaughter Kimberly Dickinson (Robert) of Colorado Springs, CO, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Also preceding him in death were two brothers Thomas C. Haugen and Robert C. Haugen. Cremation will take place and inurnment will be in the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson, WI.
